What we do
A quieter, more architectural way to live with a television.
A Shires media wall is bespoke cabinetry, panelling and shelving built into the full width of your living room wall, designed so the room reads as architecture and the television reads as one small part of it, rather than the whole focal point.
Every wall is made-to-measure to the room: the TV recess is sized to your screen, an electric fireplace recess is framed in if you want one, floating shelves and closed cabinets are placed for the way you actually live, and every cable is concealed inside the build.
We work with homeowners across Shropshire and Herefordshire, from period cottages in Ludlow to new-builds in Telford, who want to hide the wiring, lose the freestanding TV unit, and finish the room properly.
Who it's for
Homeowners renovating a living room, snug or open-plan area who want a joined-up wall, not a wall with a TV bracketed onto it and a fireplace bolted below.
When to plan it
Before flooring is laid and while walls are still open is ideal, cabling and fireplace power can be routed cleanly. Retrofit is also straightforward; we work around existing decoration where required.
Why professional install matters
A media wall is structural, electrical and joinery in one build. Bracket weight, ventilation, fire safety around the fireplace recess and dead-flat panelling all have to line up. This is not a flatpack project.
What happens if you get it wrong
Where DIY media walls go wrong, and what it costs to fix.
Visible cables everywhere
The whole point of a media wall is concealed cabling. Retrofitting cable routes after the wall is built almost always means cutting into fresh panelling or dropping trunking, both of which undo the finished look.
TV or fireplace positioned wrong
Recesses cut to the wrong depth or height leave the TV protruding, the fireplace sitting proud, or the mantel misaligned with the eye line from the sofa. Once framed and clad, moving them is a rebuild, not a repair.
Ventilation and fire clearances missed
Electric fireplaces need specific air gaps and non-combustible clearances above and beside. Missing these is a warranty issue at best and a fire risk at worst.
The most common mistake is treating a media wall as a decorating project rather than a build. It is joinery, electrical planning and finishing carpentry combined, and it is far cheaper to specify it correctly at survey than to rebuild it six months later.

Why homeowners choose Shires
The benefits of a properly built media wall.
Cleaner rooms, hidden tech
Every cable, socket and bracket lives inside the wall. The finished room reads as architecture, not as electronics.
Built for the long term
Structural framing, fire-safe fireplace clearances and a lifetime installation guarantee. When the TV changes, the wall stays.
Fireplace-ready by design
Recess, ventilation and cabling for an electric fireplace planned at survey, no retrofit surprises, no exposed brickwork.
Adds value to the room
A properly finished media wall changes how the whole room photographs and feels, one of the highest-impact interior upgrades per pound spent.
One coordinated install
Cabinetry, panelling and electrician (if required) scheduled together. The room is finished in one visit, not stretched across three trades.
One team, one guarantee
Owner-led survey, one installer team, one point of contact. No handoffs between designer, fitter and aftercare.
The detail
Materials, methods and the variations we build.
Finishes & panelling
Fluted, ribbed, slat, flat and shaker-panelled fronts across matte, satin, high-gloss, painted and woodgrain finishes. Painted options colour-matched to Farrow & Ball, Little Greene and Paint & Paper Library palettes on request. Woodgrain options include warm oak, smoked oak, walnut and ash, matched to existing floors and joinery where required.
Cabinetry & shelving
Full-height closed cabinets, base media units, floating shelves, glass-fronted display, and hidden speaker or subwoofer compartments. Every internal shelf is adjustable, every drawer is soft-close, and hidden vents are added where AV equipment needs airflow.
Lighting
Warm LED strip lighting behind floating shelves, above the TV recess, inside cabinets and sometimes as a backlight wash behind fluted panelling, sensor-triggered or wall-switched, dimmable as standard.
Variations we build
- Full-width fluted feature wall with recessed TV
- Media wall with integrated linear electric fireplace
- Shaker-panelled media wall with base cabinets and open shelving
- Media wall with floor-to-ceiling storage either side of the TV
- Snug and cinema-style low-set media walls
- Media walls into chimney breasts and out-of-plumb period walls
- Home-office media walls with hidden desk or workstation
Electrical, fireplace & scope
We do not carry out mains electrical work in-house. Where sockets need moving, a new fused spur is needed for the fireplace, or aerial and network points want relocating, we work alongside, or can recommend, a qualified electrician and coordinate their visit into the schedule. The fireplace unit and TV are usually supplied by the customer; we advise on sizing and clearances at the survey.
Residential only, we do not currently take on commercial AV installations.
Frequently asked
Media wall questions, answered honestly.
- How much does a bespoke media wall cost in Shropshire and Herefordshire?
- Every media wall is bespoke, so pricing depends on the width of the wall, the finish, whether a fireplace is integrated and how much cabinetry sits below the TV. Most projects we quote in Shropshire and Herefordshire fall between £3,500 and £9,500 supplied and installed. We survey the room in person, then send a written, fixed-price quote within 24–48 hours, no hidden extras added later.
- Do you supply and fit the fireplace and TV as well?
- We design the media wall to accept your chosen electric fireplace and TV, including the correct recess, ventilation and cable routes. The fireplace unit itself and the TV are usually supplied by the customer, we can advise on sizing at the survey. Where electrical work is required (sockets, fireplace power) we work alongside or can recommend a qualified electrician.
- Can a media wall hide the wires and existing sockets?
- Yes: clean cable management is the single biggest reason clients choose a bespoke media wall over a shop-bought TV unit. We route HDMI, power, aerial and speaker cables through concealed runs inside the cabinetry so nothing is visible above or below the TV, and existing sockets are boxed in and re-fed where needed.
- How long does it take from survey to installation?
- You will receive a fixed-price quote within 24–48 hours of your free home survey. Made-to-measure build times are typically 4–6 weeks, followed by a 2–4 day install window depending on complexity. If electrical work is required we coordinate the electrician into that schedule so the room is finished in one go.
- Does the media wall come with a guarantee?
- Yes. All cabinetry carries a 5-year manufacturer guarantee, and our installation is covered by a lifetime installation guarantee, if anything moves, sags or comes loose because of the way we fitted it, we return and put it right at no cost to you.
- What if my wall isn't flat, or has a chimney breast?
- Chimney breasts and out-of-plumb walls are exactly what bespoke media walls are for. We build the frame to correct the wall, not to fight it, and finish the fluting, panelling or cabinetry flush across the full width. Period Shropshire and Herefordshire properties almost always need this.
- Can you match the media wall to existing joinery in the room?
- Yes. We can colour-match to Farrow & Ball, Little Greene, Paint & Paper Library and similar palettes, and we can specify woodgrains to sit alongside existing skirting, panelling or built-in shelving so the finished wall reads as part of the architecture.
- Do you cover my area?
- We cover Shropshire and Herefordshire including Ludlow, Hereford, Shrewsbury, Bridgnorth, Cleobury Mortimer, Church Stretton, Leominster and Telford. If you're just outside these towns, call us, we very often still cover it.
- Do you offer any kind of emergency or fast-track install?
- Enquiries and quotes are handled 24/7. Made-to-measure lead times are set by the cabinetry build (typically 4–6 weeks), so genuine same-week installs are rare. Where you have a firm date, a house move, a Christmas deadline, flag it at enquiry and we'll tell you honestly whether we can meet it.
- Are you insured?
- Yes, we carry full public liability insurance across every installation. Combined with the lifetime installation guarantee, that means the media wall, and your home during the fit, is fully protected.
